From the booklet foreward by Mas'ud Ahmed Khan: "Salutations is a voice-only album in praise of the Last Prophet, Muhammad (SAW) It aims at continuing the tradition of Islamic nasheeds (defined as spiritually uplifting songs) that entertain as well as educate. The artist, Inayet Petker, was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and after nearly a decade in the US settled in Pretoria, South Africa, where he resides with his family. He has an endearing, sweet style of singing, incorporating traditional Indo-Pak vocals, Yemeni raag and accompanies some of his singing with “vocal percussion” to good effect that gives people who are used to the beats of modern music something “familiar”. By putting English lyrics to classic Urdu and Arabic material he aspires to make the nasheeds applicable to his and younger generations while paying homage to those before. Those of us brought up in the west are often cut off from our religious and cultural traditions; it is the works of individuals like Inayet that seek to re-connect us to our rich and splendid heritage."
